We have always been advised to not go work/school when we are sick. It’s a mandate given to all employees at workplace everywhere but the surprising thing is this doesn’t really stop people from coming to the office on days they are sick.
There are meetings that feel too important to skip. Or a task that has to be accomplished the very given day. But sometimes a day’s rest in your cozy blanket with adrak wali chai is all what you need when you are sick.
But how to avoid falling sick especially when your contagious co-worker refuses to take an off.
Give communal spaces a thorough and frequent wipe-down
Wiping the light switches, doorknobs and keyboards with a disinfectant wipe can minimize your exposure to virus and germs. Make sure to disinfect any object that you share with your sick co-worker. And start saying no when people ask to borrow your pen.
Get your own coffee mugs
All our offices have a set of mugs in the pantry that we use. But when people on your left and right are falling sick, you can minimise your exposure to germs by bringing your own coffee mug and not sharing it with anyone.
Avoid touching your face
Touching your face and biting your nails mindlessly is not much of a problem until the flu season comes. The easiest way for germs to reach your system is through your face (eyes and mouth) where they reach from your hands.
So, either stop touching your face or start washing your hands frequently if you want to protect yourself from the painful flu.
Wash your hands
We have heard this command from our doctor time and again. Doctors insist on washing hands so much because it works. Think of the things you touch throughout the day; doorknob, flush button, faucet, mouse, keyboard, chair and what not. You should wash your hands frequently and thoroughly and also keep a hand sanitizer handy.
Sleep properly
The best way to keep your immune system in shape is by getting proper and good quality sleep every night. Our immune system is your defence against all the deadly bacteria and virus that are constantly trying to attack you. Another benefit of sleeping properly is the high energy you feel throughout the day.
Workout
It is said that one of the best ways to boost your immune system is by working out regularly. Just make sure to take a bath after you have used the gym equipment – as they harbour germs.
